The celebration will begin on 10 September with the solemn act of hoisting the flag of Catalonia.
The Parliament has organised the flag-raising ceremony, which will be presided over by the presidents of the Parliament and the Generalitat, Josep Rull and Salvador Illa, and the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni.
The flag measures six by nine metres, and a plaque explaining its history and symbolism will be placed at the base of the flag pole. From that moment on, the flag will fly all year round close to the Palau del Parlament.
The ceremony will begin with the transfer of the Catalan flag from the Parliament to Barcelona City Council, which has ceded the space in the park where it will be located. The Mossos d'Esquadra Ceremonial Guard will play a leading role in this event, which will feature musical and artistic performances, and the Barcelona Guàrdia Urbana police force will also take part, in full dress uniform.
The Parliament will then hold an institutional reception for the political, economic, cultural and social members from Catalonia.
The awarding of the Parliament's medals of honour is separate from the institutional celebration of the National Day of Catalonia, as the chamber's highest distinction will be presented in October.
Open to the public
On 11 September, the Parliament will hold an open day and, with the collaboration of Adifolk, an exhibition of popular culture.
