What do you need to know?
It is the procedure to present the candidacy for the prize.
Both natural and legal persons or collectives from all over the world who have carried out relevant work in the field of ecological sciences may be candidates.
Application period for the call: from January 27 to April 27, 2026.
Candidate/s can be presented by:
- University institutions
- Colleges
- Centers of research
- Academies scientific or with scientific branches and other institutions of analogous purpose
- Persons rewarded with this prize in former calls
- Persons who have been members of the jury
- Excepcionament, candidatures shown in a personal capacity by persons can be accepted of recognized prestige in the area of the ecology
Application period for the call: from January 27 to April 27, 2026.
- Letter or note reasoned justification for the nomination. It must be signed by the person responsible for submitting the application.
- Curriculum vitae of the candidate.
The candidate must have a scientific career or a discovery in the field of ecological sciences:
- That it has contributed to the significant progress of scientific knowledge or thought.
- That it has contributed to the development of theoretical instruments for the good management of natural resources, territory or the sea.
There are not rates associated with this formality.
Endowment of the prize
The endowment of the prize is of 80.000€ and an only and symbolic piece in memory of Ramon Margalef.
Consideration of the candidatures in next calls
Once shown, the candidatures have to be considered in two calls more (three in total), except if the/the manifest prospeaker explicitly that its proposal is not again considerate.

By means of a resolution of the holder of the General Secretariat of the Department of the Presidency that will be published in the Official Journal of the Generalitat de Catalunya.When is the event of delivery of the prize celebrated?
The President of the Generalitat will deliver the Ramon Margalef Prize in Ecology during a ceremony to be held in Barcelona. Also an academic event for the scientific community will be held.
