What do you need to know?
For timber and firewood exploitation activities for non-commercial purposes on privately owned forest land, prior notification to the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda is required before the start of the activity.
This procedure must be completed:
- To give prior notification of a forest exploitation activity for non-commercial purposes involving up to 2 tonnes of timber or 12 tonnes of firewood (domestic use).
This procedure may only be completed in person if you are an individual notifying a forest exploitation activity for non-commercial purposes.

For individuals who own forest land and/or hold the rights to exploit its products, and who wish to:
- Cut, collect, and use timber and firewood for their own consumption.
This procedure can be requested at any time.
Documentation that must be attached to the notification:
- The applicant’s ID document (DNI), if they do not authorize the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda to request the data from other administrations or public entities in order to verify compliance with the conditions established for notifying the forest exploitation activity. Documentation previously submitted to the department responsible for forestry matters does not need to be provided again if the data has not changed and remains valid.
- Signed authorization of representation form, if the notification is submitted by an authorized entity/representative.
There are no fees associated with this procedure.
Owners of forest properties that do not have an approved and valid forest management instrument must notify the forestry administration in advance of any forest exploitation activity for non-commercial purposes involving up to 2 tonnes of timber or 12 tonnes of firewood (domestic use).
